Lambert Sustainability is facilitating the Envision process from start to finish- from initial feasibility study to full project documentation- in collaboration with a large team of engineers, planners, landscape architects and Harvard University departments.

The first phase of the project is a 14-acre master plan which includes new infrastructure, streets, and open space to support an initial 900,000 square foot mixed-use development of office and lab space, residential units, a hotel and conference center and green space.

Echoing Harvard University’s strong commitment to sustainability and resiliency, the ERC development will be an innovative model of sustainability.

A few of the initial sustainability features include:

  • Walkable/bikeable streets with a 50-foot-wide pedestrian promenade, urban gathering spaces, and protected bike lanes.

  • A state-of-the-art storm-water system that will enhance resiliency efforts and address flooding challenges in the neighborhood.

  • Climate resiliency measures including reduced heat islands, new green space, bioretention areas and tree cover.

  • Transformation of an industrial brownfield site into a vibrant urban district focusing on research, entrepreneurship and innovation.

The goals and commitments of the project include bold and innovative architecture; creation of a robust, sustainable public realm, a pledge to include affordable housing that exceeds municipal requirements, a focus on creating a space for life-science and tech startups to flourish, and a diverse development and project team.
